For my rez day this Halloween, I decided to go out on the grid and get down in the Second Life music scene. I saw a little bit of a handful of performances, the first one was by the ghostly Maximillion Kleene who delivers a satisfying and professional show as a singer and guitar player with a Paul Simon kind of sound and style. From jdlivemusic4u from the notification group "Live Music Lovers",
"If music feeds the soul, Maximillion Kleene is the food of the gods. His dynamic musical range and smooth groove provide many a listener with a virtual buffet of auditory temptations. Max started his music career with formal study of piano at the Royal Conservatory but quickly realized that it was the guitar guys who got the chicks. By 19, he was seriously immersed to the very center of his musical soul in AC/DC and from there branched out to experiment with sounds that range from Pearl Jam to Foo Fighters"
Next I heard singer Timber Wulff who was disguised as the Invisible Man with fashion sense. He delighted me when he opened his set with the theme song to the Rocky Horror Picture Show, "Science Fiction / Double Feature".
" Michael Rennie was ill
The Day the Earth Stood Still
But he told us where we stand
And Flash Gordon was there
In silver underwear
Claude Rains was The Invisible Man
Then something went wrong
For Fay Wray and King Kong
They got caught in a celluloid jam
Then at a deadly pace
It Came From Outer Space
And this is how the message ran...
Science fiction double feature
Doctor X will build a creature
See androids fighting Brad and Janet
Anne Francis stars in Forbidden Planet
Woah oh, oh oh oh
At the late night double feature picture show
I knew Leo G. Carroll Was over a barrel When Tarantula took to the hills And I really got hot When I saw Janette Scott Fight a Triffid that spits poison and kills."
Then I went on to hear singer / guitar player Virgil Flowers at The Night Owl, who was not dressed up for Halloween but delivered an exceptional performance. The highlight of his set was his stunning presentation of ELO's "Telephone Line". When he sang the opening lyrics I had the sense that he could have been addressing most anyone in Second Life who might be trapped in isolation and loneliness behind the computer screen,
"Hello, how are you? Have you been alright through all those lonely Lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely nights? That's what I'd say, I'd tell you everything If you pick up that telephone, yeah, yeah, yeah
Hey, how you feelin'? Are you still the same, don't you realize the things we did We did were all for real, not a dream I just can't believe they've all faded out Of view, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, ooh
" Blue days, black nights I look into the sky (the love you need ain't gonna see you through) And I wonder why (the little things you planned ain't comin' true) Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time, I'm living in twilight Oh, oh, telephone line, give me some time, I'm living in twilight "
I hadn't heard Virgil before and I am greatly looking forward to hearing more originals and covers from him and I would highly recommend anyone to go to his show, he's great.
After I went to hear singer / guitar player Hogman64 at The Jagged Edge who also presented an excellent show with a mix of Halloween and contemporary songs. He spoke a little Dutch during his show which was very interesting to hear. I found my time spent at Hogman's show to be highly enjoyable and fun.
I listened to singer Extremely for a little, she was dressed as a pirate and had a lovely voice although I did not really recognize any of the songs.
The grande finale for my night was the rocking-est time of all at (Haunted) Hotlanta Blues Club featuring the phenomenal singer / guitar player Noma Falta. Her concert was attended by 60 fans and she delivered a bluesy, professional, fun and outstanding performance featuring songs by Bonnie Raitt and many others. If you get the chance to catch a show by Noma, by all means go, especially if you LOVE the blues.
