Duval Street Pub had its grand opening just a few weeks ago at the beginning of November 2018. It is owned by Dimi (diminvan.ludwig) who is a singer / songwriter and the former owner of Hummingbird Cafe which operated in Second Life from 2006 until 2011. Duval Street is in fact a famous location in the real life Key West, Florida. It is mostly known for its incredible party scene of pubs and live music. The new Duval Street Pub venue in Second Life is appropriately located on Liz Harley's Key West sim featuring the Key West Marina venue (https://www.secondbeat.org/forum/venues/key-west-music-venue).

Duval Street Pub in Second Life does not disappoint. If you are looking for that beachy endless Summer kind of vibe like Jimmy Buffet always sang about, look no further. Put on your flip flops and head over on Thursdays for an incredible, all acoustic, all live music line-up. If you blew out your flip flops barefoot is A-OK too. Nearly every Thursday at approximately 9, 10 & 11 a.m. SLT and 4, 5 & 6 p.m. SLT there will be all live, acoustic music performing artists scheduled for your aural delights. Dimi and Rosi will host the night time events and our beloved Vinnie and Daallee Rhapsody (The Vinnie Show) will host the day time events.

This past Thursday was the day that musical country legend Roy Clark of Hee Haw fame passed away. He was remembered by performing artists and fans at the Duval Street Pub. The night time lineup whom I had the great pleasure to hear perform included Lexi Luan, Dimi with Ed Lowell and concluded with a stellar, soul-warming performance by Shannon Oherlihy. Lexi and Dimi recalled how they actually met up in real life 12 to 15 years ago on a hilltop in Cat Holler, Arkansas. Now don't that beat all? Dimi, who grew up in a country-western, music-loving family who listened to Roy Clark, presented amazing impressions of some of Mr. Clark's comedy lines in an uncanny fashion that jogged the memories.
Lexi Luan gave a professional and solid performance and sang songs like Willie Nelson's "Crazy" which was made famous by singer Patsy Cline. She especially shone when she presented a lesser known gem written by Randy Newman, "Guilty" which was sung previously by Bonnie Raitt. I do believe that Miss Luan did the song more than justice.
After Miss Luan's set, Duval Street Pub owner Dimi presented a set of Americana folk / pop songs that I had not heard in some time. I am looking forward to hearing more from Dimi, it is clearly apparent that he has been singing and playing guitar for quite some time. He was joined for his last song by the amazing Edward Lowell who plays flute as well as stringed instruments.
Shannon Oherlihy presented the closing set with her own brilliant originals "Wishing on Planes", "40 Years On" as well as "Emotional Vampire". She also sang Joni Mitchell's "Case of You" and really lit up the room when she presented "Paradise" by John Prine. This song was first sung by Shannon when she was just 9 years old. The last song that she performed is one of my all time favorites, also by John Prine, "Angel From Montgomery".
Please be sure to check out Shannon's feature page and interview in Second Beat: SEPTEMBER 2018: https://www.secondbeat.org/blog/shannon-oherlihy.
"Paradise"
by John Prine
When I was a child my family would travel
Down to Western Kentucky where my parents were born
And there's a backwards old town that's often remembered
So many times that my memories are worn
And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
Well, sometimes we'd travel right down the Green River
To the abandoned old prison down by Airdrie Hill
Where the air smelled like snakes and we'd shoot with our pistols
But empty pop bottles was all we would kill
Then the coal company came with the world's largest shovel
And they tortured the timber and stripped all the land
Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man
When I die let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam
I'll be halfway to Heaven with Paradise waitin'
Just five miles away from wherever I am.
